This Saturday I got to be a part of one of the most perfect warehouse weddings I have ever had the good fortune to experience. I mean, check out a couple of the crappy iphone pictures I managed to shoot of the location (they barely do the place justice, but it was all I had, y’all).
The bride and groom, Kristin and Justin, had spent weeks converting an abandoned warehouse into a multi-room wonderland of evergreens, candles, vintage glassware, and soul food. It was enchanted. They gave me a gorgeous set-up and the bride’s one request was that I incorporate the warehouse’s windows into the picture. Huzzah, a girl who knows her angles (she’s a photographer in her own right, ps, here’s her fabulous work).

Within a couple of hours, I’d laid down the image of the dance floor, complete with golden window light and brick-work.
The best part, of course, was when the guests started filtering into the reception and the first dance kicked off, and I got to paint the bride and groom. What an easy couple to paint! They were flawless! It was basically like having the best studio in the world, complete with the live musical accompaniment of Nic Cowan (The groom is Nic Cowan’s prodigious manager). Just the best night ever. Once the painting was finished, I flipped around the canvas so that the guests and the happy couple could see it. Voila! Here’s to a perfect night, and what I’m sure will be a creative and happy marriage. Congrats, Kristin and Justin!
